Dear Reader,
The ANL staff would like to wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day. Despite being a few days late, this is our Valentine’s Day special. We’re tabulating the nominations for the Anime Awards Night and the voting form will be sent out later today. The web site is still being worked on but should be finished within the next few months.
Sincerely,
Sephiroth Jenova

Anime Series Review: Love Hina
Written by Xellos

Keitaro Urashima is a college student. ...well... almost. He's studying to take the exams anyway... again... because he failed the first time... but he has a job. ...sort of. He's the manager of the Hinatasou, a girl's dormitory attached to a hot spring. One would think that he'd have it made. Easy job, beautiful girls to look at... and who knows? With so many girls around, he can't help but get lucky, right? ...well ...wrong. First there's Narusegawa. He sort of makes a bad first impression by being in the hot spring when she comes in to bathe... and in these hot springs, you don't exactly wear bathing suits. (In the manga, I believe, they did bathe in the nude. In the anime [Sorry, all you hentai people] they do wear towels [ed note: aww...]). He happens to bow in apology... but he's standing a little too close, and ends up putting his face into... interesting territory. This is Keitaro's introduction to the famed "Naru punch". Fleeing from Narusegawa-san, he runs across the other girls that inhabit the Hinatasou... there's the samurai girl, who can split rocks with a bokken... there's the little middle-school girl who apparently comes from Arabia or something, who likes building mechas... not to mention several others. See, the thing about Keitaro is, no matter the purity of his intentions, he always ends up getting into the middle of situations that he really doesn't intend to get into, in exactly the wrong way, so he ends up looking like the biggest pervert on the planet. That, and he's constantly being reminded of a far-off, faded memory, where he promised to go to Tokyo University with a childhood playmate... who just might be Narusegawa-san. Love Hina is really a great anime. Well drawn and well voiced.

PS2 Game Review: Guilty Gear
Written by Sephiroth
Sephy: ****
This game is perhaps the best fighting game I have played in a while. Even though it has the generic good guys versus unfeeling ‘cyborg’ bad guys, it has its own subtle plot twists. In one of the story modes, a good guy gets past all of his rivals to meet the overlord of the evil that’s happening on Earth- just to join sides and become a bad guy. In the spirit of games like Fatal Fury and Street Fighter, this is another around the world fighter game. However, a majority of the fighters seem to be either Japanese, Chinese, or European. And they aren’t the normal stereotypes, either. The characters feature interesting quirks, such as the shadowy demon fighter from Hell and the vampire named Slayer from Germany. As far as button mashing is concerned, there’s plenty of that while maintaining preset moves that will just blow the competition away. One of the features to be thankful for are the training, story, and arcade modes that just complete this wonderful game. Compared to other fighting games coming out, this one stands up to the rest of them and even surpasses many of the better-known titles in terms of playability. Tekken 4 and the latest Mortal Kombat games don’t hold up to this one, while the new Soul Caliber game is still superior. Even with that said, the characters in this game are just a lot more likable and ‘friendly.’

Battle Square NEO
Sephy: ...
Purin: Can’t think of anything? Jig?
Xellos: It’s Valentine’s Day, after all. Why don’t we just have Ranma or Tenchi fight each other.
Sephy: *crushed look* ...they managed to reserve a spot in the hiding shelter.
Ukyo: Seanma-honey! *glomps Sephiroth* Take this! It’s my special Chocolate Okonomiyaki of Love! *presents a heart shaped okonomiyaki covered in chocolate*
Botan: *flies in on her oar, jumps off and holds out a chocolate bunny to Sephy* This is for you!
Pink: *from far away* *twitch* *is holding a pink heart box behind her back*
Iria: *throws a box at Xellos’s head* Here.
Xellos: *smiles and eats the chocolate contents* Mm...
Iria: Do you like them?
Xellos: Sore wa...
Iria: *points her shotgun at Xellos’s head*
Xellos: *sweat drop* Oishi desu. [ed note: very delicious... horribly spelt... we had American translators spell it for us]
Purin: Why are the girls giving the guys chocolate?
Oddichu: *hands Purin a box of chocolates* In Japan, the girls give the guys the chocolate, but they have to give the girls chocolate on White Day, a month away.
Nuku Nuku: Nya! Take my chocolate! *hands some to Sephiroth*
Sephy: *sweat drop* Fight! Vincent Valentine (FF VII) versus Sailor Venus!
Sailor Venus: I am a soldier of love, and in the name of Venus I shall punish you! *strikes pose*
Vincent: ...
Sephy: Go for it, Vincent!
Vincent: This holiday has nothing to do with my last name.
SV: Venus Love Me Chain! *shoots the chain striking Vincent*
Vincent: I don’t want to fight. *takes out his Death Penalty shotgun and shoots the ground near Sailor Venus*
SV: You scum of the Negaverse! Love and Beauty Shock! *zaps Vincent*
Sephy: *evil smirk* Hey! My father was Hojo and not you!
Vincent: *twitches as his limit gauge maxes out* Here I come. *transforms into Chaos, his demon form*
SV: Venus Crescent Beam Smash! *shoots a laser beam that just gets deflected* Hey!
Chaos: *in a deep guttural voice* Venus Love Me Chain! *blasts Sailor Venus*
Luna: Aren’t you worried?
Artemis: With the promise of cheesecake she’ll win this fight.
Gatomon: *just drools at Sailor Venus*
Cyber Kitty: *from atop a clock tower* Well, Sephiroth said to not purposely kill Artemis.. *fires a shot from his sniper rifle, nailing Gatomon*
Luna: Oh my god! They killed Gatomon!
Artemis: *eats some popcorn* Oh well.
Chaos: *grabs onto Sailor Venus’s head and applies pressure*
Sephy: This might be a little too much...
Sailor Venus: *gasps wide eyed and falls unconscious*
Chaos: *tosses the body to the ground and grows tentacles*
Sephy: *blinks*
Purin: Call the fight... now...
???: I shall defeat this oaf! *a jigglypuff sailor scout in a green outfit appears* Jigupiter Thunder Crash! *zaps Chaos*
??? #2: Take this! *a jigglypuff sailor scout in a red outfit appears* Jigimars Fire Blast! *fries Chaos*
??? #3: That isn’t nice! *a jigglypuff sailor scout in a blue outfit appears* Jigercury Freezing Bubbles! *freezes Chaos*
All Three: We’re the Jigglypuff Girls!
??? #4: That’s right, girls. *is a jigglypuff in a lab coat with a pipe* I’m the Profjiggly. I made these Jigglypuff of the Apocalypse from sugar, spice, and old Sailor Moon tapes.
Chaos: *falls to the ground and reverts to an unconscious Vincent*
Yuffie: *smiles as she jumps in from nowhere with the candy that Nuku Nuku, Botan, and Ukyo were trying to give to Sephy* I’ll take this one, too! *uses a smoke bomb and disappears with Vincent*
Ukyo: Hey! That was for Seanma-honey! *runs off to lay the smack down on Yuffie*
Botan: I’ll get you yet, you thief! *flies off*
Nuku Nuku: *looks confused... but rushes off as well*
Sephy: Yuffie had the right idea. *poof*
Pink: Xellos, where did Sephy go?
Xellos: Sore wa...
Pink: *gets angry and grabs Xellos and holds him against the wall*
Xellos: ...to Joey’s house.

Yu-Gi-Oh Card Of The Week #4
Valentine’s Day Special
Magic Card: Change Of Heart
Here’s a classic card. One of the first restricted and released from the starter decks, and ironic for Valentine’s. The possibilities for this card are endless and it has become an incredibly useful card. It will allow you to take control of one of your opponent’s monsters for a turn. You can take over and use your opponent’s flip effect against him. You can tribute it to bring out a stronger monster or just take it to do some direct damage. This card alone could turn the tables and win a match in one turn, especially if used to its full potential. Please note, however, this takes control of the monster. If an effect or magic card specifically talks about the card’s owner, it’s a completely different story. Very few cards are must haves for a good deck, but this is one of them. Therefore, I’m giving Change Of Heart a 9 out of 10. Why not a 10? Because I always found it stupid and redundant that they made an Ultra Rare version of this card. Sure, it’s kinda cool to show, but I’d rather get an Ultra Rare of a different card that I don’t have.

Closing- Joey Wheeler’s House
Serenity: Can I offer you some tea, Mr. Sephiroth?
Sephy: Sure.
Joey: Hey, sis, can ya get me some tea, too?
Sephy: I shall set two cards in the Magic/Trap Zone. Now, I am using Change of Heart of your Barrel Dragon. Turtle Oath with your Barrel Dragon and I’ll attack your Giant Soldier of Stone.
Joey: My turn... Soul Exchange ya Crab Turtle and ma face down card to summon Jinzo and attacking you directly, ending the game.
Sephy: *sighs and smiles* I think I’m catching on.
Serenity: Here’s your tea. *hands it to Sephy and Joey*
Joey: Thanks, sis, ya the greatest.
Serenity: Shut the *#%^ up and drink your goddamn tea. *walks off*
Sephy: *sweat drop*
Pink: *enters with Excel*
Joey: Well, then. *turns into Ilpalazzo*
Sephy: Huh. *hits self with a beach ball to turn into Inu Yasha*
Pink: Why did you do that?
Inu Yasha: Do I need a reason to do anything?!
Excel: Ilpalazzo-sama! *holds out chocolates* I have the greatest wonderful gift of chocolate for you which is from the Swiss mountains in Europe which is renowned for fine banks and chocolate even though I’m sure that our idealistic organization Across will make better chocolate... *rambles on*
Serenity: *walks in* Are we cosplaying? *puts on a purple wig, coughs, bites into a blood capsule and falls over*
Pink: *blushes* Sephy... this’s for you. *holds out the heart box*
Sephy: Pink... *accepts it* Thank you very much.
Pink: *hugs Sephiroth*

Cyber Kitty: ...and so they lived happily ever after until the next issue.
Saotoby: What about me -gema?
Gatomon: There’s always next issue.
Iria and Xellos: *pull out matching shotguns and shoot Gatomon*
Cyber Kitty: There goes the most fulfilling job I ever had.
