Letter from the Editor
Dear Reader,
Wow. It’s been a whole month since the last issue. Well, we’ve finally put something out. Heh... yeah. We’re not going to slack off like this again. Honestly! Well... hopefully... maybe... Well, to make up for it, we’re having two battle squares! Skuld’s run off to China to train at some spring or something so we’ve hired back Asuka (Neon Genesis Evangelion) who also happens to be Shampoo (Ranma 1/2). Yes, the EVA pilots ARE that messed up.
Sincerely,
Sephiroth “That’s MY ramune!”

Anime Preview (we hope) - Rockman EXE
Sephiroth: ****   Purin: *****
Yes, it’s the year 20XX once again and one of Japan’s hottest new series is Rockman EXE (Megaman Battle Network). It actually starts out before when the game starts as Netto (Lan) doesn’t have Rockman. Instead, he has a generic navi that gets horribly beaten by Gutsman. After a few minutes of Netto complaining, he gets a letter from his father, Dr. Hikari (Light for all you non-Japanese speakers). The storyline closely resembles the game but introduces the characters completely out of sequence. A special award has to be given to Masa, the local fishmonger, for his never-ending efforts to bring the kids calcium. He doesn’t have a navi, though... or does he? Rockman EXE is filled with jokes and huge battles. If you loved the game, the series will draw you even deeper into the world.

BATTLE SQUARE NEO
Sephy: Today we’re having a computer battle between Pacman and those weasels from Bubble Gum Crisis 2040.
Cyber Kitty: *via internet* Who came up with this demented idea?! And why do I have to be the referee?!
Xellos: *sitting on a data string happily* Sore wa himitsu desu!
Cyber Kitty: *twitches ever so slightly*
Sephy: For those of you who have forgotten, that means: “Thaaat’s a secret.”
Lum: Is my fight ready -d’tcha?
Shampoo: Hiya! Sephiroth’s holding this fight for me! *glomps Sephy*
Lum: Darling -d’tcha!!! *zaps Sephy*
Saotoby: Of course we all remember that Shampoo is Seanma’s fiancée -gema.
Sentret, Kamui the Cabbit, and Belldandy: Of course.
Sephy: *sweat drop* There are a lot of characters that haven’t done anything useful for a while, aren’t there?
Purin: Are you talking about everyone again?
Sephy: Without any more non-sense, Pacman! Go!
Cyber Kitty: *watches the yellow circle eat dots* Gee, this is exciting...
Xellos: Control, alt, del- *is electrocuted*
Cyber Kitty: BAD MAZOKU!
Sephy: RELEASE THE WEASELS!
Purin: Release the hounds!
Saotoby: God, I love the hunt -gema!
Cyber Kitty: *watches one weasel eat dots and another play with a ball* Wow. This battle is going everywhere.
Mr. Referee: *pixilates in next to Xellos* Then it’s agreed! This is an official submission cyber battle! Weasels and Pacman, rooooobattle!
Xellos: Well, at least it’s safe in here. *relaxes*
Filia: *screams at a computer monitor* Xellos-chan! Get out of there and paint the garage!
Sephy: They’re such a happy couple.
Lum: You’re saying that we’re not -d’tcha?
Shampoo: You mean you don’t love Shampoo?
Sephy: ...shimatta... *runs*
Saotoby: Poor Seanma. He had to use the Saotoby School of Anything Goes Martial Arts Secret Technique- Run Away.
Weasel: *eats Pacman*
Weasel #2: *continues to play with ball*
Cyber Kitty: That was too easy.
Xellos: Does that mean I wasn’t supposed to change the OS of Pacman to Windows XP?
Cyber Kitty: That would explain it.
Saotoby: *downloads Xellos onto a disk and gives it to Filia* And everything ended the way it should have -gema.

Sephy: *far, far away* Our next battle will be between Goku from Dragon Ball Z and Ryoga from Ranma 1/2. Why, you ask? Mostly because I want to see a DBZ freak get beaten up.
Goku: What was that?
Sephy: Ryoga’s going to steal your dragon balls and destroy the world!
Goku: Not if I have anything to say about it! *charges up*
Ryoga: Where am I now? *looks lost*
Sephy: Ryoga! He said he was going to score with Akane after he beats you up!
Ryoga: *faces Goku* Why you..!
Goku: I won’t let you destroy the world!
Ryoga: Shut up and take it! *smashes Goku with his umbrella*
Goku: *jumps back* Take this! Kamehameha! *fires a chi blast at Ryoga*
Ryoga: *opens up his umbrella and blocks the attack*
Sephy: Ryoga is well known for his ability to block attacks with his umbrella but that was unbelievable.
Ryoga: *uses his rock breaker technique which is easily dodged by Goku*
Sephy: *looks at watch* ...and now.
Goku: Haaa!!! *goes super saiyan*
Sephy: *mutters* Freak.
Goku: I won’t let you live out your sick fantasies!
Ryoga: You should talk. Take this! Shi Shi Hakoudan! *summons all of his negative feelings into a single blast and sends Goku flying*
Goku: I’m not supposed to lose! *star pings*
Sephy: *claps* Well done, Ryoga.
*starts raining and Sephy turns into a red haired girl and Ryoga turns into P-chan*
Sephy (girl type): It just HAD to happen, didn’t it?!

A Short History of Maho Shojo Anime
Written by Shampoo
As we should all know, the world's most popular Maho Shojo Anime (Magical girl genre anime) is Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon (Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon). They would have never made it without the firsts of anime, so this is to inform you of everything that makes these shojo anime so popular and loved.
To first state out, anime would have never made it without Astroboy, who was the first anime to appear in the United States in the 1950's. He led the way for all anime, even the ones out only in Japan. This allowed the animated heroes to appear in their own starring roles on television. As time progressed, and the age-old battle of the sexes progressed, a girl became the star of an anime. Mahotsukai Sari, or "Witch Sally" in English, was the first one to air in 1966, a very rebellious time period. A year later it aired in color, and the next girl in anime, Himitsu No Akka-chan ("Akka-chan's Secret") showed up in 1969. These two led the way and set some ground rules for future girl anime. First, all of the girl anime are targeted at, the obvious, young girls. Second, they usually show adolescence struggling to gain maturity and facing all the problems that encounter them along the way to adulthood.
Society experienced some dramatic changes; during the 80's women had more independence than ever before. In 1982, new standards were incorporated into the maho anime list. Maho No Princess Minky Momo ("Magical Princess Minky Momo"), which was popular at the time, had the heroine of the story die. It affected not only the female viewers but the males ones as well. And even though it was targeted at young girls, it was created to be viewed by all age groups. It is still considered to be one of the greatest anime classics of all time. OAV's (Original Animation Videos) came out in the 80's as well. Since most people owned a VCR, Japan decided that certain series could now be bought on videotapes, and that this would be a new financial investment in entertainment.
By the 1990's the whole social view of genders had changed. Women could now be forceful and assertive, no offense to any male readers, but men could be caring and tender. Remakes of the original two girl anime were done for their third times. Also, more rules were created. Thanks to Naoko Takeuchi and her Code name wa V series, and the background story Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon, the sentai, or team, form of girl anime became more and more popular. This allowed the viewer to choose their favorite personality from the series and watch the entire group develop. Another good example of a sentai anime is Magical Knight Rayearth (consisting of a three-girl group) or Card Captor Sakura (which features the card captor and her friend Tomoyo). None of the maho shojo anime would be anywhere without Astroboy, Mahotsukai Sari, Maho No Princess Minky Momo, or Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon. So everyone should give these girls a hand for playing their part in history and affecting large groups and various viewers.

Closing: Sephiroth’s home at the Northern Crater
Sephy: *tucked into bed with a night cap on*
Cyber Kitty: Sephiroth, you have visitors.
Sephy: *rolls over* I don’t care... who could know I was up here?
Xellos: *lets himself in* I told Shampoo and Lum that you were here.
Sephy: *sits straight up and glares at the mazoku* You did... WHAT?! *eye twitches*
Xellos: You don’t have to worry, I let them in myself.
Sephy: *is glomped by Shampoo and Lum* ...
Gatomon: Since when is this an HNL (Hentai News Letter)?
Cyber Kitty: *gasps!* YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD! *teleports him away*
Purin: *sighs* Big brother...
Xellos: And this ends another issue of the AN- *is grabbed and hauled off by Filia*
Filia: You still have to do the dishes!
Sephy: Well, this has been another ANL. So get out of my room! *large puchin*
Enigma: *giggles uncontrollably at the double meaning*
Asuka: PERVERT! *slaps Sephy*
Purin: *sighs* Big brother...
